In a collaborative project, AMETEK Land and iba AG have expanded the process connectivity of the iba system. High-resolution temperature data from SPOT+ pyrometers can now be directly retrieved from the device and acquired, recorded, and analyzed in ibaPDA, alongside other process data.
Processing materials like metal, aluminum, or paper involves high temperatures and significant energy consumption. For instance, during steel production, the workpieces must be heated to over 1,300 °C – a major challenge for surface temperature measurement, especially given the fast-paced rolling processes. With AMETEK Land's SPOT+ series of non-contact infrared pyrometers, temperatures can be precisely and flexibly measured, even in demanding applications like liquid metal processing, aluminum, and steel coating.
The newly created interface with ibaPDA allows these temperature readings to be analyzed in the iba system alongside other relevant process data. This enables direct correlations between processed workpieces, prevailing temperatures, and product quality to be established, revealing optimization potential in the production process. Moreover, real-time insights enable automatic adjustments to be made to processes, increasing efficiency and preventing defects, such as coating errors. The SPOT+ pyrometers can buffer and transmit high-resolution temperature data via HTTPS to ibaPDA. With an interface license in ibaPDA, temperature data from an unlimited number of SPOT+ pyrometers can be captured. These pyrometers are used in aluminum production, steelmaking, paper production, and other industrial processes, covering a temperature range from 0°C to 3,500 °C, depending on the model.
