Temperature Data from LAND® Thermal Imaging Cameras in the iba System

Reliable monitoring of thermal processes plays a crucial role, particularly in continuous industrial applications. For these use cases, LAND® thermal imaging cameras are ideally suited, as they capture high-resolution temperature information directly from the running process. However, to find the root causes of hotspots or thermal anomalies, thermal imaging data must be analyzed together with additional process signals.

In a joint project, iba AG and LAND have therefore implemented the integration of LAND thermal imaging cameras into the iba system. ibaCapture v5.7 is now able to connect to thermal cameras whereas ibaPDA acquires the temperature data as numerical values. As a result, thermal process data from LAND thermal imaging cameras can now be acquired, stored, visualized, and analyzed synchronously with other plant and process data in the iba system.

Minimum, maximum, and average temperatures are automatically calculated for each region of interest (ROI) and time-synchronously acquired by ibaPDA. This is the foundation for root cause analysis of thermal problems as all necessary data is available in ibaPDA. This data can then be stored for offline analysis either in ibaHD-Server or DAT files.

To meet a wide range of customer requirements, ibaCapture provides numerous configuration options, visualization features, and camera control functions for all thermal cameras integrated into the iba system: Temperature values can be displayed in Celsius, Kelvin, or Fahrenheit. For individual measurement areas (Regions of Interest, ROI), specific emissivity values can be defined.  Hotspot and coldspot visualization can also be enabled individually per ROI and displayed using a color-coded temperature scale. Extended functionality also enables motorized focus control and shutter operation directly within the software. This enables more comprehensive insight into thermal imaging data and increases flexibility in operating thermal cameras within the iba system in industrial environments.

Through the tight integration of LAND thermal imaging cameras, iba AG continues to expand the connectivity of the iba system and enhances the possibilities for synchronized analysis of thermal process data in industrial applications.
